Online therapy information

Accessing therapy online can be a convenient way to fit your sessions around your life. There are a few things to consider before deciding if seeing a therapist online is suitable for you.

Benefits of online therapy

– convenience  – no need to commute, and you can work with a therapist outside of your own geographical area (however I can only work with people who live in the UK)

– accessibility if you find it difficult to leave your home

– ease of fitting sessions around your busy schedule

– anonymity – no one will see you coming and going from a therapy practice.

What you will need to consider

– you will need a device (laptop, PC, tablet or smart phone) you can use to access Zoom and a strong enough internet connection that can support video calls uninterrupted

– you will need a private and quiet space at home where you won’t be overheard, and where you feel relaxed

– as you won’t be travelling to and from sessions, you might want to build in time to switch from your everyday activities into the session time a few minutes beforehand and back again at the end of the session, giving yourself time to process any emotions that have surfaced – you could go for a short walk, or take time to have a cup of tea or coffee

– if you are in a crisis, considering harming yourself, or need immediate mental health support, online counselling is not enough and face-to-face emergency support will be more suitable at this time. If you feel you need support right now, you can contact the Samaritans on 116 123 or your GP or nearest A&E department.

Online counselling sessions take place at the same time every week, and last for 50 minutes each. I will need to have your contact details, including a phone number and address, in case of emergencies.

I currently have availability for online therapy, including some morning and evening appointments. Contact me now to make an appointment – I can usually offer an initial meeting within one week.
